Rebels Place 5th at Montreal Tournament


The Albany Rebels got off to a slow start at the Montreal Shamrock Tournament on Saturday, losing both of their group stage matches before winning the 5th place match at the Montreal Irish Rugby Grounds in St. Julie, Quebec.


Albany was shutout against the Quebec Patriotes 1 and then lost a more competitive match against Calgary/Kingston. The Rebels, having finished 3rd in Group A, then faced Quebec Patriotes 2 in the 5th place match.


The Rebels dominated from start to finish, winning 4-6 (18 points) to 0-2 (2 points). Forward Pierre Massena scored two goals and a point in that match and Ryan Moloney added a goal and three points.


Following the tournament, the Rebels attended a party with the other teams at Hurley's Irish Pub in Montreal.


Rebels Notes: Pierre Massena and Ryan Moloney led the Rebels in tournament scoring ... Dustin Moore scored his first career point against the Quebec Patriotes in the 5th place match ... The Rebels return to action versus Syracuse and Rochester on Saturday, June 18 in Albany.
