Match Preview: Rebels at Syracuse Gaels (6/13)
The Albany Rebels will play their second match of the season and their New York Cup opener on Sunday against the Syracuse Gaels. The match will start at 1:00 p.m. and be played at Henninger High School in Syracuse.
These two clubs, along with the Buffalo Fenians, will compete for the New York Cup and a spot in the Midwest Finals.
The Rebels are coming off a 4-8 (20 points) to 0-7 (7 points) victory against the Dutchess County Griffins, which was the club’s first match in 22 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There are only a few changes to the game roster from that match nearly a month ago, including the addition of forward Cillian Flavin and back Dylan Conklin.
“It is so exciting to get back out there kicking a ball and introducing some of our new players to competitive football,” Flavin said. “This has been a long time coming and I can't wait to get reacquainted with the Cuse players.”
Rebels Notes: The Rebels won their season opener against the Dutchess County Griffins 4-8 (20 points) to 0-7 (7 points) on May 15 … Ryan Moloney leads the Rebels in scoring this season with 2 goals and 4 points … Dylan Conklin and Cillian Flavin will make their season debuts for the Rebels … The Rebels have won their last five matches against Syracuse, dating back to 2018.
